India bans Japanese food imports for 3 months

India has banned food imports from Japan for fear of radiation contamination from the country's tsunami-ravaged nuclear power complex.
An Indian Health Ministry statement says the ban took effect Tuesday and will last three months or until credible information shows the hazard has subsided. The situation will be reviewed weekly.
India was already among several countries that increased testing of Japanese imports after the March 11 disaster.
Japan already banned sales of certain food items produced near the Fukushima power plant due to radiation in regional vegetables and milk.
